MHS Celebrates Final Student-Built Home and Retirement of Legendary Instructor

A local legacy came full circle on Thursday as the Murray High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) program hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for its 12th student-built home. The event marked not only the completion of a stunning new residence in the heart of the city but also the grand finale of a storied 30-year teaching career for MHS construction instructor Quin Drury.
To honor their teacher's final chapter, Drury’s current cohort of students donned custom t-shirts reading "MHS Construction: The Last Dance." It was a fitting tribute to a legendary career that has shaped the landscape of Murray and the futures of thousands of young tradespeople.
Over three decades at Murray High School, it is estimated that Drury has mentored more than 6,000 students. Under his watchful eye, generations of Spartans have learned the grit, precision, and pride of the building trades. Many of his pupils have gone on to win prestigious industry awards and scholarships, translating classroom skills directly into successful, high-paying careers in the construction sector.
A Masterpiece in the Heart of Murray
The crown jewel of this year's program stands at 54 W. Woodrow Street. The brand-new, 3,624-square-foot rambler is currently listed on the Utah MLS for $829,900. Built by the Murray High School Construction Class under the rigorous direction of a licensed, certified contractor, the home represents the gold standard of hands-on, real-world learning.
The property boasts high-end, modern finishes that rival any commercial development in the valley. The main floor features an open-concept layout with towering vaulted ceilings, a luxurious master suite with an expansive walk-in closet and oversized shower, and custom cabinetry. The kitchen is a standout centerpiece, anchored by a beautiful walnut island and matching hood, complete with soft-close doors, quartz countertops, and a double oven.
Designed with long-term functionality in mind, the rambler also includes a three-car garage, dedicated RV parking to the side, a separate basement entrance, and the highly coveted benefit of no HOA fees. Its central location—just south of Intermountain Medical Center and Costco, with rapid access to I-15—makes it a rare gem in a deeply established neighborhood where brand-new construction is exceptionally hard to find.
Building Homes, Building Futures
The district's unique student-built home program bridges the gap between traditional education and industrial necessity. By treating the job site as a live classroom, Drury’s students didn't just study blueprints—they hand in nearly every aspect of the build.
While the keys to 54 W. Woodrow St. will soon hand over to a proud new homeowner, the true legacy of the project walks away on two feet. Drury leaves Murray High School having provided students with a tangible blueprint for self-reliance, professional success, and community pride.
Though the tools are being put away for "The Last Dance," the 12 homes standing across the city remain a permanent monument to a teacher who spent 30 years building a community from the ground up.
